In a spontaneous effort to learn something new, my friend Leah (the bride from the wedding video we shot!) and I started taking a knitting class. It is held in the cutest little store called LMNOP right by my house. I haven’t taken a class since I graduated from college in 2006, so I have to admit I was a little nervous. I am (was?) absolutely clueless about knitting and it was a slow start. But by the end of the two hours class, I started getting the hang of it! There are two more classes in the next two weeks and we are supposed to have a finished scarf by the end, just in time for chilly weather!
Even though I was a little worried going into the class I’m so glad I signed up. It’s really important to me to continue learning new things as I grow older and not get too comfortable doing the same thing all the time. I really want to embrace as many skills as I can, especially now that I’ve gotten so involved in the handmade world. I think knitting is a good start. And sewing is next. ;]
What is something new that you want to learn? And do you knit? Can you give me some tips? :]
I really want to learn how to sew! It’s a very valuable life skill…especially when it comes to buttons that have popped off 🙂
Good for you! This is something that I have been wanting to do for years, just haven’t gotten around to it. Can’t wait to see the scarf!
So jealous! There are no cool stores near me to teach me things. I can crochet, but I really want to learn how to knit. My grandma has been saying she’ll teach me but I’ve been waiting on the lesson for like 10 years… YouTube I guess it is then!
Good luck with your scarf. 🙂

I knit! Sign up for Ravelry (www.ravelry.com), it’s free and has the best resources. There’s groups and help boards and so many patterns (with a lot of them free!). Totally worth it!
And if you do sign up, add me and I can always help you with any questions!

I still consider myself a new knitter so I have no tips for you but it’s so much fun! I hope to take a Soldering workshop next year, wanna take my jewelry in a different direction. Good luck with your classes!
LMNOP? How stinkin’ cute is that!? Knitting sounds like so much fun. I’ve been wanting to learn for quite sometime now, just haven’t acted upon it yet. Though a class sure sounds fun! 🙂
I’ve always wanted to learn how to crochet. Maybe I need to find a class to learn how to do that.
Good for you……super start!
I learned to knit from my aunt when I was 4. I got pretty good, but stopped and forgot most of it. My wife still knits. Learning new things is great. You should knit yourself a coffee cozy, as the one you have seems to be off duty.
thats so cool that you took this class! I would LOVE to learn to sew! I look forward to being done with school and having time to learn things I enjoy.
this class sounds so fun! i’ve been wanting to try something new. i think it may be the season!
This looks like so much fun! That shop looks absolutely cozy and a perfect spot to spend a November afternoon.
How did you find out about the class? I am always looking for classes like this, but since I just moved and am in a new city, I have a hard time finding local spots.
I would love to learn how to crochet or how to play the piano!
that’s awesome! I went to all the classes when I was in Barcelona! I learned to knit, crochet, embroidered .. everything I could take! its awesome! here is a really cool knitting website : http://www.woolandthegang.com/

Looks like a lot of fun, especially during this cold season. The classes look really inviting 🙂 I’d love to learn how to knit too! And sew. And draw. Right now I’m trying to learn how to make handmade soaps but there’s a million things on my learning wish list!
What a lovely idea, I have recently learned to knit again, but from my mum and sister.
The only thing I can really suggest is dont pull it too tight as you go. This was a problem that I had 😀
I would love to learn how to crochet, but with all the crafting obsessions I currently have that are being neglected, I can’t afford to take on something else right now.
I took sewing lessons last year that were really fun. In January im starting some web developer courses 🙂 decided I really love this blogging thing and would love to learn more HTML skills 🙂
LOVE! Wish we lived closer. I could teach you how to sew and you could teach me what you learned in your knitting class! I’ve always wanted to learn how to knit, I’ve got the crochet thing down.
While crocheting, I’ve found youtube to be very helpful when I’m trying out a new stitch that I can’t get down.
Good luck!
That is so cool that you guys are taking a knitting class. I had hopes for learning how this fall but time got away from me/procrastination set in. And I even had a good reason to start as my sister is having a baby girl this month. Now its a little too late to start my dream baby blanket. I’d still really like to learn thought. Is knitting something that you feel is better learnt from an actual person or do you think its possible to understand if read from a “how to” book? Cute blog by the way, I think I just might have to follow 🙂
xo,
Janell
I just learned how to knit too! So far, I’ve only made a little scarf for the pup that he wore for about 2 seconds. Looking forward to seeing you finished scarf!
P.s. Just found your blog and I’m loving it so far!
I am taking a jewelry making class in January as part of my “learn one new thing each month” approach to 2012. Good luck with your knitting class.
