I feel like I’ve been so quiet lately! Sometimes I worry that being quiet will leave me to be forgotten. Do you ever worry that? The handmade industry moves fast, and, as you know, rarely sleeps. I think it’s a little too easy to feel like you could get left behind if you’re not constantly “on.”
But, just because I’m not as active online as I have been in the past does not mean JAA is in a lull. I have been working on my new website pretty much daily for the past month. It is definitely making progress but the details that go into this project are making my head spin. Especially for some one like me (indecisive mofo)….I feel like I am constantly changing my mind. Back and forth. Yes and no. Yep, if I was someone’s client I would be annoying the shit out of them. Good thing my trusty husband is the one helping me with this, because obviously I am not annoying him at all. Obviously.
Ok, so maybe the questions of “Where do I put this link?” and “Do I really need that page?” are being treated as life-altering decisions. But, this is my baby. This is a big deal. And yes, perhaps I am critical. But being critical produces quality. You’re with me on this right?
Also, I have a couple summer shows coming up that I’m going to start preparing for. I’m excited to be taking JAA to some new locations and am hoping to meet some more of you. I’m talking to you Chicago and Arizona! Put these dates on your calendar and come say what uppp.

What have you been working on lately? Anything fun? xo JA

I love the web design doodles! Excited for your new site to launch. It’s funny how a lull in online presence can make you feel forgettable, when the trouble can sometime be that the interweb makes it impossible for some things to be forgotten 😉

this: “Sometimes I worry that being quiet will leave me to be forgotten. Do you ever worry that? The handmade industry moves fast, and, as you know, rarely sleeps. I think it’s a little too easy to feel like you could get left behind if you’re not constantly “on.” “

    SO TRUE.

What the f? I commented and it is not there… totally how my morning has been going >:(

As I said, I am totally with you on the “if I am quiet for too long, people will forget about me” because it actually happened to me! I took a long, much needed, break from social media a while back and ever since it’s been a struggle to get my groove (and traffic) back. It’s a royal pain in my ass!

Can’t wait to see you back in the Bay for a show or a hang! Xo

  • I really hope you make your way down to Austin, Tx sometime! I’m sure we’d all love you! Maybe when it’s not so hot.. Haha

  • 🙂 As a lady who was taking some time out of “online time” to do some of the things you mentioned I found myself nodding throughout this entire post! *smiles*! 🙂 Love the online doodles and can’t wait to see the new site! 🙂

Hahaha you remind me of me. I am 110% with you on the working and reworking everything 50 times. I spent a week setting up my new blog before finally launching it last week. First thing I thought when it was all done and ready? “Maybe I should get a different template and redo everything.” Websites take a ton of work! But (as my boyfriend always reminds me), it’s perfectionists (like you) who ends up with the best presentation for everything. So there’s always that. Excited to see your new site!

P.S. If you don’t mind sharing, what filter/action (assuming there is a filter) did you use on that second pic? It’s freaking gorgeous!

Can’t wait to see the new site and I can’t wait to meet you at your Phoenix show. I am so there!

I am ALWAYS indecisive when it comes to website design. Just when I think I’m satisfied with something, I get itchy to change it again. Can’t wait to see! And make sure you post about your time at Renegade. It’s ine if my professional goals 🙂

  • Paola Roble says:

Hey Julie! I’m still really excited about seeing you wedding photos!! Are you posting them anytime soon? Xo

  • Julie- Renegade in Chicago is awesome! I showed there a couple of years ago- super fun vibe, great booth neighbors and a happy crowd. Rained one day, hot the next & still big crowds. Have fun & I’ll try to stop by-

If I don’t see sexy product photos on your new site, I’m going to … well, I’m not really sure what I’m going to do. But I’m sure it will be drastic. Like eating an entire sleeve of Oreos in protest. Yeah. Take that.

Seriously, though, I hope to see you in Chicago! I have no idea what is going on that weekend yet, but I’d like to be able to go up to Chicago and hang out for awhile! I’ll talk to Ty and see what he’s up for. 🙂

This is so true. I think it’s true of the photography industry too…if you go quiet on social media, you can be forgotten. Unfortunate, but the true reality of our time!
